ServiceM8 GPS Tracking Feature Unlock Cost — Field Service Management pricing comparison

ServiceM8 lists its GPS feature, Auto Time Tracking, at $19 a month on top of your plan, according to the ServiceM8 US pricing page. On paid plans the page says “From $19/mo”, so treat $19 as a floor. A 5-person crew with 120 jobs a month would pay at least $98 a month: $79 for the Growing plan plus $19. This guide works through that arithmetic for 1, 3, 5 and 8 users.

Key points

  • The pricing page lists Auto Time Tracking at $19/mo on the Free plan and “From $19/mo” on Starter, Growing, Premium and Premium Plus.
  • The page names this feature as the one that uses GPS and job data to clock staff on and off and to log job check-ins and travel time.
  • Plans are priced by jobs per month, not by users: $29 for 50 jobs, $79 for 150 jobs, $149 for 500 jobs and $349 for 1500+ jobs.
  • The page does not say whether the $19 is charged once per business or once per user, so a 5-user crew could pay $19 or $95 a month for the add-on.
  • At a minimum of $19 a month, the feature costs $228 over 12 months before any plan fee.

What does ServiceM8 charge for GPS tracking?

The pricing page shows one GPS-related line item, priced at $19 a month. It is called Auto Time Tracking, and the page describes it as letting ServiceM8 “automatically Clock On & Off shifts, Check In & Out of jobs throughout the day, and include travel time from your previous location, using GPS & job data” (ServiceM8 pricing).

Two things to note. First, the word “From” appears on every paid plan but not on the Free plan. The page does not explain what moves the price above $19. Second, other lines in the same table, such as Scheduling and Photo Branding, read “All plans”. Auto Time Tracking does not. It is the only feature in that block with its own price.

Is GPS a plan upgrade or a separate add-on?

It is shown as a separate monthly charge, not as a higher tier. The feature appears in all five plan columns with a price attached, so the page does not suggest you must move up a plan to get it. The page also says that if you want an add-on from a higher plan and do not need more job credits, upgrading for that feature alone can still be good value. That statement is about plan-linked features such as Forms, and it does not change what the table shows for Auto Time Tracking.

The practical reading is: pick your plan by job count and team structure first, then add $19 or more for GPS time tracking. If you buy the add-on, the plan price does not change.

What does it cost for 1, 3, 5 and 8 users?

The totals below are an illustrative calculation, not data from the vendor. I assumed a job volume for each crew size, chose the cheapest published plan that covers it, and added the $19 minimum. The Free plan allows 1 user only, so any crew above one needs a paid plan.

Crew sizeAssumed jobs per monthCheapest plan that fitsPlan pricePlus GPS at $19 flat12-month total
1 user25Free (30 jobs)$0$19/mo$228
3 users45Starter (50 jobs)$29$48/mo$576
5 users120Growing (150 jobs)$79$98/mo$1,176
8 users400Premium (500 jobs)$149$168/mo$2,016

Plan prices and job limits come from the ServiceM8 pricing page. The assumed job counts are mine. Your own monthly job count may fall in a different tier.

Because every paid plan lists unlimited users, the plan price does not rise as you add people. The only way crew size raises the bill in this table is by pushing you into a higher job tier, or by the GPS charge turning out to be per user.

How each total in that table is built

Each row is two steps: add the plan price to the $19 minimum, then multiply by 12. Nothing else goes in.

  • 1 user: $0 + $19 = $19 a month. $19 x 12 = $228.
  • 3 users: $29 + $19 = $48 a month. $48 x 12 = $576.
  • 5 users: $79 + $19 = $98 a month. $98 x 12 = $1,176.
  • 8 users: $149 + $19 = $168 a month. $168 x 12 = $2,016.

Splitting the yearly figure shows how much of it is the add-on. The add-on is $228 a year in every row. The plan alone is $0 for 1 user, $348 for 3 users ($29 x 12), $948 for 5 users ($79 x 12) and $1,788 for 8 users ($149 x 12). As a share of the monthly total at the flat $19, GPS is 100% for the solo user, about 39.6% at 3 users ($19 of $48), about 19.4% at 5 users ($19 of $98) and about 11.3% at 8 users ($19 of $168). Put another way, the add-on matters most to the smallest businesses.

Dividing the monthly total by the headcount gives a per-person view: $19 for 1 user, $16 each for 3 users ($48 / 3), $19.60 each for 5 users ($98 / 5) and $21 each for 8 users ($168 / 8). These per-person figures are only a way to compare; the page does not bill per person for the plans.

What does the total look like across every job-volume tier?

The table above picks one job count per crew size. Job volume is what really sets the plan, so this table sweeps the whole range of published tiers instead, with the GPS add-on held at the $19 minimum. It uses only the plan prices and job limits on the pricing page. The Free row applies to one user only.

Jobs per monthPlan that covers itPlan pricePlus GPS at $1912-month totalGPS share of monthly total
1 to 30 (1 user only)Free$0$19$228100%
31 to 50Starter$29$48$576about 39.6%
51 to 150Growing$79$98$1,176about 19.4%
151 to 500Premium$149$168$2,016about 11.3%
501 and upPremium Plus$349$368$4,416about 5.2%

The Premium Plus total is $349 + $19 = $368 a month, and $368 x 12 = $4,416. The page lists that plan as 1500+ jobs and shows 20c per additional job there, so a business well above 500 jobs should read the Premium Plus terms on the page, since this article does not calculate extra-job charges.

Read the table by its jumps, not its rows. Going from 30 to 31 jobs a month moves a solo operator from $19 to $48, a rise of $29. Going from 50 to 51 jobs moves the bill from $48 to $98, a rise of $50. Going from 150 to 151 jobs moves it from $98 to $168, a rise of $70. Going from 500 to 501 jobs moves it from $168 to $368, a rise of $200. The GPS add-on stays $19 through all of them (on the flat reading), so the job tier, not GPS, drives each jump.

What if the $19 is charged per user?

The page does not say, so this is the main unverified cost. The same page states “no per-user fees” for ServiceM8 Phone and says ServiceM8’s plans are not priced per user. It does not make either statement about Auto Time Tracking.

To show the size of the risk, this table repeats the example above on the assumption that $19 is charged for every user. This is a hypothetical scenario, not a published price.

Crew sizePlan priceGPS if flat ($19)GPS if per userMonthly total if per user12-month total if per user
1 user$0$19$19$19$228
3 users$29$19$57$86$1,032
5 users$79$19$95$174$2,088
8 users$149$19$152$301$3,612

At 8 users the gap between the two readings is $133 a month, or $1,596 over a year. For a one-person business there is no difference. For a team, ask ServiceM8 which reading is correct before you budget.

Plan against crew size, under both readings

The table above fixes one plan per crew. This cross table lets plan and crew size vary independently, so you can see what happens if your job volume puts you in a different tier than the example assumed. Each cell is the monthly total: plan price plus GPS. The first number is the flat reading ($19 once); the second is the hypothetical per-user reading ($19 x users). The Free plan is left out because it allows one user only.

Plan (plan price)3 users5 users8 users
Starter ($29)$48 flat / $86 per user$48 flat / $124 per user$48 flat / $181 per user
Growing ($79)$98 flat / $136 per user$98 flat / $174 per user$98 flat / $231 per user
Premium ($149)$168 flat / $206 per user$168 flat / $244 per user$168 flat / $301 per user
Premium Plus ($349)$368 flat / $406 per user$368 flat / $444 per user$368 flat / $501 per user

How the per-user cells are calculated, using the Growing row as the model: 3 users is $19 x 3 = $57, and $79 + $57 = $136; 5 users is $19 x 5 = $95, and $79 + $95 = $174; 8 users is $19 x 8 = $152, and $79 + $152 = $231. The other rows follow the same steps with their own plan prices.

Two patterns stand out. Down any column, the plan price drives the jump: at 5 users, moving from Starter to Growing adds $50 on the flat reading ($98 - $48). Across any row, only the per-user reading changes the number, because the flat figure does not move with headcount. At 8 users on Starter, the per-user GPS cost of $152 would be more than five times the $29 plan ($152 / $29 is about 5.2). Whether that case is real depends entirely on the billing basis, which the page leaves open.

Which plan does GPS time tracking not fit?

It does not suit a business that wants a live map of vehicles. The page does not list a live location or fleet tracking product. The only GPS function it names is automatic clock on and off, job check-in and out, and travel time between locations. If dispatch needs to see where each van is right now, nothing on the page confirms that ServiceM8 does this.

It also fits poorly on a tight margin if you have a large crew and the fee turns out to be per user. In that case a team of 8 would pay more for GPS ($152) than for the Premium plan itself ($149).

Some more specific cases where the arithmetic above does not hold:

  • A two-person crew with 25 jobs a month. The Free plan is 1 user only, so this crew cannot use it even though 25 jobs is under the 30-job limit. The cheapest paid plan is Starter at $29, so the minimum total is $29 + $19 = $48 a month ($576 a year), not the $19 the solo row shows. If the fee were per user, it would be $29 + $38 = $67 a month ($804 a year).
  • A solo operator who grows past 30 jobs. At 35 jobs a month the Free plan no longer covers the volume, and the page says you will be prompted to upgrade. The monthly total moves from $19 to $48, which is $29 more, or $348 more over 12 months ($29 x 12).
  • A crew that sits just over a tier line. With 51 jobs a month, Starter’s 50-job limit is exceeded. The cheapest fit is Growing at $79, so the total is $98 a month rather than $48. If those extra jobs are a one-off spike, the page notes your job credits reset if your monthly plan resets in that time, so the picture can differ from a steady-state calculation.
  • A business that already pays for another time-tracking tool. The $19 here is only comparable to that tool’s cost if the other tool charges a flat fee. This article checked no other vendor, so it makes no comparison.
  • A crew that never needs travel time or shift logging. If you do not use clock on and off or job check-ins, the $19 buys nothing you would use, and the plan price alone is the right number.

How do job limits change the total?

The plan you need is driven by jobs per month, so job volume matters more than headcount. The published limits are 30 jobs on Free, 50 on Starter, 150 on Growing, 500 on Premium and 1500+ on Premium Plus. The page says that if you go over, you will be prompted to upgrade your plan unless your monthly plan resets first. On Premium Plus the page lists 20c per additional job.

Take a crew with 160 jobs a month. That crew is just over the Growing limit of 150, so it needs Premium at $149. With GPS at the $19 minimum the total is $168 a month, $2,016 a year. If the crew could trim to 150 jobs, Growing plus GPS would cost $98 a month, a $70 monthly difference. This is an arithmetic illustration only. Check how ServiceM8 counts a “job” before you rely on it.

That $70 difference repeats every month, so over a year it is $840 ($70 x 12), the gap between $2,016 and $1,176. It also shows the cost of each extra job at the boundary: 10 jobs over the line costs $70 a month, or $7 per extra job. By the same arithmetic, 1 job over the Starter line (51 jobs instead of 50) costs $50 a month, and 1 job over the Free line (31 jobs instead of 30) costs $29 a month. These are calculated from published plan prices, not quoted by the vendor.

What else adds to the bill?

Some costs on the page sit outside the GPS question but belong in a total:

  • Text messages. On the Free plan, messages are 10c each. The four paid plans show Free for text messaging, with an overage fee per SMS above the plan cap. The page refers readers to the comparison table for that cap and does not give the overage rate in the text I read. A solo user sending 100 texts a month on Free would pay $10, on top of the $19 for GPS.
  • Extra jobs. Premium Plus lists 20c per additional job.
  • Trial. The page says the 14-day free trial gives full access to all features, which would let you see Auto Time Tracking before you pay. It does not say whether the add-on is billed during the trial.
  • Contract terms. The page says “There are no lock-ins with ServiceM8’s pricing”, and that credit from a previous plan is applied pro rata. It does not say whether the GPS add-on can be cancelled mid-month.
  • Learning Roadmap. The page says that by progressing through the Learning Roadmap you can unlock higher job and SMS limits, plan upgrades and access to higher-tier add-ons. It does not say whether Auto Time Tracking is one of them.

Which common assumptions does the arithmetic contradict?

“The Free plan means GPS is free too.” The Free column shows $19/mo for Auto Time Tracking, the only column without the word “From”. A solo operator on Free with GPS pays $19 a month, which is $228 a year. The plan is free; the add-on is not. Add 100 texts at 10c each and the month is $29 and the year $348.

“Unlimited users means the GPS add-on covers my whole crew at no extra cost.” Unlimited users is a statement about the plan. The page makes no such statement about Auto Time Tracking. If the add-on is flat, an 8-person crew pays $168 on Premium. If it is per user, the same crew pays $301. The difference is $133 a month ($301 - $168), or $1,596 a year, so the assumption is worth checking before you rely on it.

“$19 is the full price of the feature.” On the four paid plans the page says “From $19/mo”. That wording makes $19 the lowest figure shown, not a confirmed final price. Budget with $19 as a minimum and ask for the real number for your plan.

What could not be verified?

I read one vendor page, on 2026-10-28, and no other source. The following are not stated on it:

  • Whether the $19 is flat or per user.
  • What “From” means on paid plans, and what would make the price higher than $19.
  • Whether a Free plan user can buy the add-on in the same way as a paid plan user, beyond the $19 shown in the Free column.
  • Whether the price differs for annual billing. The page shows monthly prices only.
  • Sales tax, onboarding or setup fees, and any hardware or phone requirements for GPS.
  • Whether there is live location tracking.
  • The SMS overage rate per message on paid plans.

I have not used this product, and nothing here comes from hands-on use. All figures are the vendor’s published numbers or arithmetic on them. No other vendors were checked for this article, so there is no comparison with other GPS time-tracking prices.

What should you check before buying?

  1. Ask whether $19 is per business or per user. This single answer moves an 8-user total from $168 to $301 a month.
  2. Ask what “From $19/mo” means for your plan. Get the exact figure in writing for your plan tier.
  3. Count your real jobs per month. The plan tiers jump at 30, 50, 150 and 500 jobs, so a few extra jobs can add $50 or more.
  4. Run the free trial with GPS switched on. The page says the trial gives full access to features, so you can check how it logs time and travel before paying. Confirm that nothing bills automatically at the end.
  5. Decide whether you need live vehicle location. If you do, ask ServiceM8 directly, because the pricing page does not list it.
  6. Check cancellation. The page says no lock-ins, so confirm how that applies to the add-on.

Re-check the ServiceM8 pricing page before you budget, since the figures here were read on 2026-10-28 and vendors change prices without notice.

Common questions

How much does ServiceM8's GPS feature cost?
The ServiceM8 US pricing page lists Auto Time Tracking, which uses GPS and job data, at $19/mo. On the Free plan the comparison table shows a flat $19/mo. On the four paid plans it shows 'From $19/mo'. The word 'From' means the final figure may differ, and the page does not say what changes it. Add $19 to your plan price as a working minimum: $48/mo on Starter, $98/mo on Growing. The same minimum on the other two paid plans is $168/mo on Premium ($149 + $19) and $368/mo on Premium Plus ($349 + $19). Over 12 months the add-on alone is $228 ($19 x 12), whichever plan it sits on.
Do I have to upgrade my ServiceM8 plan to get GPS time tracking?
The pricing page does not describe it as a plan upgrade. The feature table lists Auto Time Tracking under all five plan columns, Free through Premium Plus, each with a $19/mo price. So the cost is an add-on charge on top of whichever plan you already need. You choose the plan by monthly job volume (30, 50, 150, 500 or 1500+ jobs) and by whether you have more than one user. For example, a crew of 3 with 45 jobs a month fits Starter at $29, so the GPS add-on brings it to $48/mo; moving to Growing just to get GPS would cost $79 + $19 = $98/mo, which is $50 a month more for nothing the table says you need.
Is the $19 GPS fee charged per user?
The page does not say. It states that ServiceM8 does not charge per user for the plans, and that ServiceM8 Phone has no per-user fees. It makes no such statement about Auto Time Tracking. Treat per-user billing as unverified. A 5-user crew would pay $19 if the fee is flat, or $95 if it were charged per user. Confirm with ServiceM8 before relying on either figure. The gap grows with crew size: $38 a month at 3 users ($57 - $19), $76 at 5 users ($95 - $19) and $133 at 8 users ($152 - $19).
Can a solo contractor on the free plan add GPS time tracking?
The comparison table shows Auto Time Tracking at $19/mo in the Free column. The Free plan is $0/mo for 1 user and 30 jobs per month, and text messages cost 10c each there. A solo operator with 25 jobs a month would pay $19/mo plus any SMS charges, which is $228 over 12 months before SMS. Whether the add-on can be bought on the Free plan is not spelled out beyond that table. If that solo operator sends 100 texts in a month, SMS adds $10 (100 x 10c), so the month comes to $29 and the year to $348 under those assumed volumes.
Does ServiceM8 show live vehicle locations?
The pricing page does not list a live vehicle map or fleet tracker. The only GPS feature it names is Auto Time Tracking, which clocks staff on and off shifts, checks them in and out of jobs, and includes travel time from the previous location. If you need live location of vans on a map, that is not verified here and you should ask the vendor.
