ServiceM8 Add-On Costs for Growing Contractors
Work out a ServiceM8 monthly bill with add-ons, extra jobs and SMS fees, from 25 to 2,500 jobs a month, using published prices.
Price correction (2026-10-20): Updated the ServiceM8 feature-price treatment and SMS comparison assumptions using the US pricing table and official pricing explanation. This note applies only to those price details; the article’s other checks and verification date are unchanged.
An electrical crew running 120 new jobs per month fits Growing’s 150-job allowance at a $79 monthly base fee. Auto Time Tracking and Bundles are included; they do not raise the base total. Usage and optional services still require separate budgeting.
Key points
- Paid plans list unlimited users, so a 1-person and an 8-person crew pay the same base price on a given plan: $29, $79, $149 or $349 a month.
- The plan is set by new jobs per month: 30 on Free, 50 on Starter, 150 on Growing, 500 on Premium and 1500+ on Premium Plus.
- Auto Time Tracking is included in all plans. Bundles is included from Growing upward. ServiceM8 Phone is a separate optional service advertised from $19/month; confirm the applicable quote and usage terms.
- The only published per-job overage is 20c per additional job on Premium Plus, so 2,000 jobs a month costs $349 + $100 = $449.
- Optional Phone is advertised from $19/month; confirm the applicable quote and trial terms.

What assumptions does this estimate rely on?
Every number below comes from one page, the ServiceM8 US pricing page, read on 2026-10-03. Anything not on that page is treated as unknown.

Assumptions used throughout:
- Billing is monthly. The page lists “/mo” prices and does not describe an annual discount, so none is applied. Annual figures below are simply 12 times the monthly figure.
- Prices are in USD, as the page states. Sales tax is not mentioned on the page and is excluded.
- “1500+ jobs per month” on Premium Plus is read as 1,500 included jobs, with extra jobs billed at 20c each. The page does not say how the ”+” is counted, so treat Premium Plus rows as a close estimate.
- The example business is an electrical contractor with a field crew and one office or owner login. The crew size changes the answer only on the Free plan, which allows 1 user.
- A “job” means a new job created in the month. The page says, for example, that Growing lets you create 150 new jobs each month.
- Auto Time Tracking is included in all plans. Bundles is included from Growing upward. ServiceM8 Phone is a separate optional service advertised from $19/month; confirm the applicable quote and usage terms.
How does ServiceM8 cost change with monthly job volume?
The monthly cost steps up at 30, 50, 150, 500 and 1,500 jobs, because those are the published caps. This table sweeps the realistic span for a trade contractor, from a solo electrician to a multi-crew shop.

| New jobs per month | Plan that covers it | Base price | Extra-job fee | Total per month |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 25 | Free | $0 | none | $0 |
| 30 | Free | $0 | none | $0 |
| 40 | Starter | $29 | none | $29 |
| 50 | Starter | $29 | none | $29 |
| 75 | Growing | $79 | none | $79 |
| 100 | Growing | $79 | none | $79 |
| 150 | Growing | $79 | none | $79 |
| 250 | Premium | $149 | none | $149 |
| 400 | Premium | $149 | none | $149 |
| 500 | Premium | $149 | none | $149 |
| 800 | Premium Plus | $349 | none | $349 |
| 1,500 | Premium Plus | $349 | none | $349 |
| 1,800 | Premium Plus | $349 | 300 x $0.20 = $60 | $409 |
| 2,000 | Premium Plus | $349 | 500 x $0.20 = $100 | $449 |
| 2,500 | Premium Plus | $349 | 1,000 x $0.20 = $200 | $549 |
Working for the rows with extra jobs: jobs above the included 1,500 are 1,800 - 1,500 = 300, and 300 x $0.20 = $60. Add $349 to get $409. The 2,000 row is 500 extra jobs, 500 x $0.20 = $100, plus $349 = $449. The 2,500 row is 1,000 extra jobs, $200, plus $349 = $549.
A caution on the rows below Premium Plus. The page says that when you exceed your plan’s jobs, you are “prompted to upgrade your plan” unless your plan resets in that time. It does not publish a per-job fee for those plans. So a 160-job month on Growing is not priced here as $79 plus something. The page implies an upgrade to Premium at $149.
What does each job cost at full plan capacity?
The price per job is lowest at the top of each tier, and the Free plan is the cheapest per job by a wide margin because it is $0. This table divides each paid plan’s price by its job cap, assuming you use every job.
| Plan | Price | Job cap | Price per job at cap | Added capacity vs previous plan | Added cost vs previous plan |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 30 | $0.00 | n/a | n/a |
| Starter | $29 | 50 | $29 / 50 = $0.58 | 20 jobs | $29 |
| Growing | $79 | 150 | $79 / 150 = $0.53 | 100 jobs | $50 |
| Premium | $149 | 500 | $149 / 500 = $0.30 | 350 jobs | $70 |
| Premium Plus | $349 | 1,500 | $349 / 1,500 = $0.23 | 1,000 jobs | $200 |
Reading the last two columns: moving from Growing to Premium buys 350 more jobs for $70, or $0.20 per added job of capacity ($70 / 350). Moving from Premium to Premium Plus buys 1,000 jobs for $200, also $0.20. That matches the published 20c per additional job on Premium Plus, so over 1,500 jobs the extra-job fee costs the same per job as the step up from Premium. The step from Starter to Growing is the most expensive per added job: $50 / 100 = $0.50.
For a contractor sitting at 51 jobs a month, the jump from Starter to Growing costs $50 more per month, $600 over 12 months, for a month that is one job over the cap. That is the sharpest cliff in the table.
What do included time tracking and Bundles cost?
Auto Time Tracking is included in all plans. Bundles is included from Growing upward. ServiceM8 Phone is a separate optional service advertised from $19/month; confirm the applicable quote and usage terms.
| Plan | Monthly base with Auto Time Tracking | Bundles | 12-month base budget |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Not included | $0 |
| Starter | $29 | Not included | $348 |
| Growing | $79 | Included | $948 |
| Premium | $149 | Included | $1,788 |
| Premium Plus | $349 | Included | $4,188 |
These are monthly base fees multiplied by 12, not an annual contract or an all-in bill. Usage, purchased forms, optional services and tax are excluded.
Growing with these included features is $70/month below Premium base ($149 - $79), while their job allowances remain 150 and 500 respectively.
How many jobs can a given monthly budget cover?
| Monthly base budget | Plan | Included tracking / Bundles | New jobs |
|---|---|---|---|
| $0 | Free | Tracking / no Bundles | 30, one user |
| $29 | Starter | Tracking / no Bundles | 50 |
| $79 | Growing | Tracking and Bundles | 150 |
| $149 | Premium | Tracking and Bundles | 500 |
| $349 | Premium Plus | Tracking and Bundles | 1,500 assumed |
| $449 | Premium Plus with 500 additional jobs | Tracking and Bundles | 2,000 assumed |
The last row uses the article’s 1,500-included-job assumption: $349 + 500 x $0.20 = $449. Optional services do not increase these job allowances.
What does this look like for a 5-person electrical crew?
A 5-person crew on 120 jobs a month lands on Growing, and the user count does not change the price. Here is the line-by-line working.
- Jobs per month: 120. That is above Starter’s 50 and within Growing’s 150, so the plan is Growing at $79.
- Users: 5 logins. The page states “we don’t charge per user”, and Growing lists unlimited users, so users add $0.
- Auto Time Tracking: included, $0 additional subscription.
- Bundles: included on Growing, $0 additional subscription.
- Base budget: $79/month, or $948 over 12 months, before usage, options and tax.
The same crew on a per-user product at, for example, a hypothetical $30 a user would pay $150 for 5 users. That figure is purely illustrative and is not a published price for any vendor. It shows only why the user count matters little here: on ServiceM8 the cost at 1, 3, 5 and 8 users is the same.
| Users | Growing base with included tracking and Bundles | Base per user |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | $79 | $79.00 |
| 3 | $79 | $26.33 |
| 5 | $79 | $15.80 |
| 8 | $79 | $9.88 |
Per-user figures divide $79 by the number of logins and round to cents; they are not per-seat charges.
Which common assumptions about ServiceM8 pricing are wrong?
“I need to pay more as I hire.” Not on paid plans. The vendor says the only plan that limits users is Free, “to help sole traders get started”. Once you upgrade to a paid plan, you can set up as many user logins as required. Hiring a 6th and 7th technician leaves a Growing bill at $79 base.
“The Free plan cannot handle forms and certificates.” Partly wrong. The page states that customers on all plans, including Free, can buy and use any form from the Form Store, which has over 250 pre-made forms. What the Free plan cannot do is build your own forms. For that the page says you will want the Growing plan or higher, which is $79 a month. For an electrician who needs a custom inspection certificate layout, the real entry price is $79, not $0.
SMS conditions matter. Free-plan SMS costs $0.10 each, so 290 texts cost $29. This equals Starter’s base monthly fee only. The US table marks paid-plan SMS as Free, but the official FAQ describes a monthly SMS cap and overage fees. The applicable paid allowance and overage rate were not confirmed, so this arithmetic does not establish a plan-cost break-even or unlimited free SMS.
“There is a contract.” The page says otherwise. It states “There are no lock-ins with ServiceM8’s pricing”, and credit from a previous plan goes toward the new plan pro rata. That favours a month-by-month plan choice, such as stepping up for a busy season.
“Upgrading only makes sense for more jobs.” The vendor disagrees. The FAQ says that if there is a feature on a higher plan you want but you do not need more job credits, upgrading for that feature alone still delivers value. Whether it does depends on your numbers. Moving from Starter to Growing for custom forms alone costs $50 more a month, $600 a year.
When is this estimate wrong?
The tables above fail in these specific cases:
- You exceed your cap on a plan below Premium Plus. No per-job overage is published. You are prompted to upgrade, so your real cost is the next plan’s price, which can be $50 to $200 higher.
- Your Premium Plus volume is near 1,500. The page says “1500+” and does not define the exact inclusion. If the real figure differs, the extra-job rows move by 20c per job of difference.
- You use the Phone add-on. The page says ServiceM8 Phone has a single monthly price for the business and no per-user fees, and lists “From $19/mo” in the comparison row. It does not state a clear flat price for Phone, so Phone is left out of every total in this article.
- You send heavy SMS volume on a paid plan. The paid plans list texting as Free but also carry a monthly SMS cap with an overage fee. Neither number is on the page, so a high-volume reminder workflow could cost more than shown.
- You earn upgrades through the vendor’s Learning Roadmap. The page says progressing through it can unlock higher job and SMS limits, plan upgrades and higher tier add-ons. That could lower your cost, but no values are published.
- You use a payment feature. Mobile payments are listed as included, but any card processing fee is not on this page and is excluded.
- Annual billing or tax applies. Neither is described on the page.
What could not be verified?
The original estimates used the US pricing page. The correction note adds the official pricing explanation; unrelated setup and trial details remain unconfirmed.
- The final applicable Phone quote and usage terms beyond the advertised $19/month starting price.
- Whether the Phone free trial is 1 month or 3 months. The page states both.
- The monthly SMS cap on each paid plan, and the overage fee per SMS.
- The overage fee per job on Free, Starter, Growing and Premium, if any.
- Whether a selected optional service changes the budget; included Auto Time Tracking and Bundles have no separate subscription charge.
- Onboarding or setup fees. None are listed.
- Any annual discount, and sales tax.
No other vendor was compared in this article, so there are no vendors whose prices were left out.
What should you check before buying?
- Count your new jobs in your busiest month, not your average. The cap is monthly, and the cliffs are at 50, 150 and 500.
- Ask the vendor in writing what happens on day 1 of an over-cap month. The page says you will be prompted to upgrade.
- Check included feature access; time tracking is included on every plan and Bundles starts at Growing.
- If selecting Phone, confirm its starting price, account-specific usage terms and actual trial length.
- Ask for the SMS cap and the overage fee on the plan you are considering.
- If you need custom forms for certificates, price Growing at $79, not Free.
- Use the 14-day free trial on the pricing page. The page says you get full access to all features during the trial and need no credit card to start.

Common questions
- How much does ServiceM8 cost for a 5-person electrical crew?
- Growing's $79 monthly base covers 150 jobs and unlimited users, so a five-person crew creating 120 new jobs fits those limits. Auto Time Tracking and Bundles are included. The base budget is $79/month, $15.80 per person, or $948 over 12 months, before usage, options and tax.
- Does ServiceM8 charge per user?
- Paid plans include unlimited users, so one to eight logins does not change Growing's $79 base fee. Job volume, required plan features, usage and optional services can change the bill. Auto Time Tracking is included; Bundles starts at Growing.
- What happens if I go over my monthly job limit on ServiceM8?
- The pricing page says that if your plan resets in that period your job credits reset, otherwise you are prompted to upgrade. The only published per-job overage price is 20c per additional job, listed under Premium Plus, which includes 1500+ jobs a month. So 1,800 jobs on Premium Plus would be $349 plus 300 x $0.20 = $60, or $409 a month. Overage terms for lower plans are not published as a price.
- Is the ServiceM8 Free plan really free for electricians?
- Yes, the Free plan is $0 a month for 1 user and 30 new jobs a month. It is the only plan that lists text messaging at 10c per SMS, so 100 texts would cost $10. Pre-made forms from the Form Store can be bought and used on any plan, including Free. Building your own custom forms requires the Growing plan at $79 a month or higher. Paid-plan SMS is subject to the applicable allowance and overage terms, whose numerical values were not confirmed.
- How much is ServiceM8 Auto Time Tracking?
- Auto Time Tracking is included in all plans. Bundles is included from Growing upward. ServiceM8 Phone is a separate optional service advertised from $19/month; confirm the applicable quote and usage terms. Growing stays at its $79 base with these included features; the 12-month base budget is $948, before usage, options and tax.
- Is the ServiceM8 Phone free trial 1 month or 3 months?
- The source shows inconsistent Phone trial wording, so confirm the applicable trial with the vendor. Optional Phone is advertised from $19/month; obtain the account-specific quote and usage terms.
