Plumbing Scheduling & Dispatch
Best Scheduling Software for Plumbers: What Each Costs
What ServiceM8 charges plumbing contractors for scheduling and job management, plan by plan, with per-user and per-job math.
ServiceM8 is the only scheduling platform with pricing that could be fully verified for this comparison as of 2026-08-08. It runs $0/month for a solo plumber (1 user, 30 jobs/month) up to $349/month for high-volume shops (unlimited users, 1,500+ jobs/month), with no per-user fee on any paid tier.
What ServiceM8 actually charges
ServiceM8 publishes five tiers. All figures below come directly from the ServiceM8 pricing page.

| Plan | Monthly Price | Users | Jobs/Month | Text Messaging | AI Uses/Day |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 1 | 30 | 10c per SMS | 10/day |
| Starter | $29 | Unlimited | 50 | Free | Unlimited |
| Growing | $79 | Unlimited | 150 | Free | Unlimited |
| Premium | $149 | Unlimited | 500 | Free | Unlimited |
| Premium Plus | $349 | Unlimited | 1,500+ | Free (20c per extra job) | Unlimited |
Every plan, including Free, includes the core job management set: job cards, scheduling, quotes, invoices, email and SMS, mobile payments, and accounting integrations, according to the vendor’s FAQ on that same pricing page.
The per-user math
Because ServiceM8 does not charge per seat above the Free tier, the cost per user drops fast as a plumbing crew grows. Using the Growing plan ($79/month) as the example:
- 1 user: $79.00/user
- 3 users: $26.33/user
- 5 users: $15.80/user
- 8 users: $9.88/user
The same flat-fee math applies at every paid tier. A two-truck operation and an eight-truck operation on Premium ($149/month) both pay $149 total, working out to $74.50/user for two techs versus $18.63/user for eight.
The one exception is the Free plan, which is capped at 1 user by design. The moment a plumbing business needs a second login, it must move to Starter at $29/month minimum, per the plan comparison table.
Laying all four paid tiers side by side at the same headcounts makes the flat-fee effect easier to compare across plans:
| Users | Starter ($29) | Growing ($79) | Premium ($149) | Premium Plus ($349) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | $29.00/user | $79.00/user | $149.00/user | $349.00/user |
| 3 | $9.67/user | $26.33/user | $49.67/user | $116.33/user |
| 5 | $5.80/user | $15.80/user | $29.80/user | $69.80/user |
| 8 | $3.63/user | $9.88/user | $18.63/user | $43.63/user |
Read across a row rather than down a column and the trade-off becomes clear: an 8-person crew pays 12x more per seat moving from Starter to Premium Plus ($3.63 vs $43.63), but that jump is buying job capacity (50 vs 1,500+ jobs/month) and SMS/job overage terms, not extra user seats — since seats are unlimited on every paid tier regardless of price.
The per-job math
Job volume, not headcount, is what actually pushes a plumber up a tier. Cost per job at each level:
- Starter: $29 / 50 jobs = $0.58/job
- Growing: $79 / 150 jobs = $0.53/job
- Premium: $149 / 500 jobs = $0.30/job
- Premium Plus: $349 / 1,500 jobs = $0.23/job, then $0.20 per additional job
A plumbing outfit running roughly 100 service calls a month would find the Starter plan’s 50-job cap too low and need Growing at $79/month. A larger operation running 600 jobs a month stays comfortably inside Premium Plus’s 1,500-job allowance, so it would pay the flat $349/month rate rather than triggering the 20-cent overage fee, which only applies once a business clears the full 1,500-job threshold in a given month.
The tier-to-tier upgrade cost also lines up with the built-in overage rate. Moving from Starter to Growing costs $50 more per month ($79 − $29) for 100 more included jobs, or $0.50 per extra job. Moving from Growing to Premium costs $70 more ($149 − $79) for 350 more jobs, or $0.20 per extra job. Moving from Premium to Premium Plus costs $200 more ($349 − $149) for 1,000+ more jobs, also working out to roughly $0.20 per extra job — the same rate ServiceM8 charges for jobs beyond the 1,500 included on Premium Plus itself. In other words, the marginal cost of extra job capacity is consistent from the Growing tier upward; it only spikes on the Starter-to-Growing jump.
The SMS math
Text confirmations and reminders are common for plumbing dispatch. ServiceM8’s per-plan SMS charges matter here:

- Free plan: no included texts. 250 texts/month = 250 x $0.10 = $25.00/month on top of the $0 base fee.
- Any paid plan (Starter through Premium Plus): texting is included at no extra charge, per the plan comparison table.
For a solo operator sending more than roughly 290 texts a month on the Free plan, the SMS overage alone ($29+) exceeds the $29/month Starter plan price, making Starter the cheaper option even before counting the extra 20 jobs and unlimited AI uses it includes. At higher volume the gap only widens: 500 texts a month on Free costs $50.00 in SMS fees alone, which is $21 more than the entire Starter subscription, and that Starter subscription also raises the job cap from 30 to 50 and removes the per-user ceiling.
Add-ons that apply across every tier
Two features are sold separately from the base subscription, regardless of plan:
- Auto Time Tracking (GPS-based clock in/out and job travel time): $19/month, listed as “From $19/mo” on every plan tier.
- Bundles (pricing, quoting and invoicing packages): $19/month, available on Growing and up.
At 5 users, the $19/month Auto Time Tracking add-on works out to $3.80/user on top of the base plan price. Stacking both add-ons on a Growing plan account brings the monthly total to $79 + $19 + $19 = $117/month; spread across 5 users that is $23.40/user, versus $15.80/user for Growing alone. Whether that additional $7.60/user/month is worth it depends on whether GPS time tracking and the bundled pricing/quoting/invoicing package replace a separate tool the business is already paying for elsewhere.
Break-even: staying on Free vs upgrading to Starter
A solo plumber under 30 jobs/month and needing no second login pays $0/month on the Free plan, plus 10 cents per SMS sent. The moment either of the following happens, Starter ($29/month, unlimited users, 50 jobs, free SMS) becomes the cheaper or only option:
- A second technician needs a login (Free caps at 1 user).
- Job volume exceeds 30/month.
- SMS volume exceeds roughly 290/month (290 x $0.10 = $29.00, matching the Starter price).
Annual vs monthly totals
Multiplying each plan’s monthly price by 12 shows the full-year commitment implied by staying on a given tier, assuming no add-ons and no mid-year upgrade:

| Plan | Monthly | Annual (x12) | Jobs Included/Year |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | 360 (30/month) |
| Starter | $29 | $348 | 600 (50/month) |
| Growing | $79 | $948 | 1,800 (150/month) |
| Premium | $149 | $1,788 | 6,000 (500/month) |
| Premium Plus | $349 | $4,188 | 18,000+ (1,500+/month) |
These are simple monthly-rate extensions, not separate annual pricing published by the vendor — ServiceM8’s pricing page lists monthly rates only, so there is no confirmed annual-billing discount to factor in. A shop budgeting for the year ahead should use the $348/$948/$1,788/$4,188 figures as the baseline cost of staying on a tier for 12 straight months, then add any SMS overage (Free plan only) or add-on fees (Auto Time Tracking, Bundles) on top.
What could not be verified
No other scheduling and dispatch vendors were checked in this pricing pull. This article is based solely on the ServiceM8 pricing page reviewed on 2026-08-08, and no other vendor’s numbers should be assumed or compared against it until they are independently verified from that vendor’s own published pricing.
What to check before buying
- Confirm current job counts against your actual monthly volume, not an estimate. ServiceM8’s tiers are built around job credits, and going over triggers either a reset (if timed with your billing cycle) or a forced upgrade prompt.
- Check whether your crew needs Growing plan or higher for custom forms. Per the vendor’s FAQ, pre-made forms from the Form Store are available on every plan, but building your own custom forms requires Growing or above.
- Price out SMS volume separately if staying on Free. The 10-cent-per-text charge with no included allowance can erase the “free” advantage quickly for a business that texts customers job confirmations and arrival windows.
- Ask whether Auto Time Tracking and Bundles are needed, since both are $19/month add-ons layered on top of the base plan rather than included in the listed prices above.
- Re-verify pricing directly on the vendor page before signing, since published tiers, job caps and SMS rates can change without notice.

Common questions
- Does ServiceM8 charge per user for plumbing crews?
- No. Only the Free plan limits accounts to 1 user. Every paid plan (Starter, Growing, Premium, Premium Plus) allows unlimited user logins at the same flat monthly price, so a 5-person crew and a 15-person crew pay the same base fee on a given tier. In practice this means the per-user cost falls as headcount rises: on Growing ($79/month) a 5-person crew works out to $15.80/user, while on Premium ($149/month) that same 5-person crew works out to $29.80/user. A business that keeps adding techs without adding a paid plan tier is, mathematically, getting cheaper per-seat access every time it grows.
- What happens if a plumbing business exceeds its monthly job limit on ServiceM8?
- If the plan resets that month, job credits reset with it. Otherwise the account is prompted to upgrade. On Premium Plus specifically, additional jobs beyond the 1,500+ included are billed at 20 cents per job rather than forcing an immediate upgrade. For lower tiers, the practical effect is that overage pushes a business into the next plan: a Starter account (50 jobs for $29) that starts averaging 60-70 jobs a month would find Growing ($79 for 150 jobs) the more economical fix, since Growing's per-job rate ($0.53) beats paying for a second, unofficial workaround on Starter.
- Is text messaging free on ServiceM8's plans?
- Only on paid plans. The Free plan charges 10 cents per SMS with no included allowance. Starter, Growing, Premium and Premium Plus all include free text messaging as part of the flat monthly fee, according to the plan comparison table. Run the math on volume: a plumbing company sending 300 texts a month on the Free plan pays $30.00 in SMS charges alone, which already exceeds the entire $29/month Starter plan price — a plan that also includes unlimited users, 50 jobs, and unlimited AI uses at no extra cost.
- Does ServiceM8 offer a free trial before a plumbing company commits to a paid plan?
- Yes, ServiceM8 advertises a 14-day free trial with the full feature list unlocked, so a business can test scheduling, quoting, invoicing and job cards before choosing between Starter, Growing, Premium or Premium Plus. Using the trial to log a typical two-week job count is the simplest way to estimate which monthly job cap (50, 150, 500, or 1,500+) actually fits, since doubling a real two-week total is more reliable than guessing at a monthly average.
- Is Auto Time Tracking included in ServiceM8's base price for plumbers?
- No. Auto Time Tracking, which clocks staff on and off jobs using GPS and job data, is a $19/month add-on across every plan tier (Free through Premium Plus), separate from the base monthly subscription price. Spread across a crew, that flat $19/month fee gets cheaper per head as the team grows: $19.00/user for a solo operator, $6.33/user for 3 users, $3.80/user for 5 users, and $2.38/user for 8 users. A Growing-plan shop with 5 techs that adds Auto Time Tracking would move from $79/month to $98/month total, or $19.60/user instead of $15.80/user.
